Forensic accounting involves investigating such white-collar crimes, including embezzlement, fraud, and money laundering. While being a certified public accountant (CPA) is often enough to pursue a forensic accounting position, an online education providing specialized training can be beneficial.

Those pursuing college degrees in forensic accounting typically receive career training in subjects ranging from finance and accounting to law and information technology. In addition to a degree, accountants must pass the Uniform CPA Examination to obtain their accounting license.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says that accounting should be among the fastest growing occupations in the next decade, with an 18 percent rate of growth. In turn, accountants earned a median annual salary of just over $57,000 in 2007.
