Does It Matter If You Get Your MBA Online?

The MBA is undoubtedly one of the most widely sought-after business degrees, not only in the United States but across the world. The breadth of material covered through this master's degree, whether in a typical university setting or through an online school, gives the student an arsenal of knowledge in nearly any business setting. It is this scope of knowledge that makes the MBA holder valuable to prospective employers.

The Master's in Business Administration was born of America's industrialization in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Companies were seeking to incorporate standardization principles, such as the theories of Frederick Winslow Taylor, into the management of their organizations. This was called "scientific management," and basically hinged on the idea of running a company using precise, repeatable, and trainable procedures.

Over the last century the MBA has become the gold standard for business professionals seeking a career-minded academic degree. If you are interested in either advancing or switching careers, an MBA is the ideal degree to pursue. This program tells employers that you have the skills they need and puts you in an excellent position for leadership and advancement opportunities.

Getting an MBA Online
Getting an MBA through an online school doesn't in any way detract from the value of the degree. Employers are becoming more and more accustomed to seeing employees and applicants studying through distance learning programs. If you take the time to earn your MBA online, that sends the same message to employers as getting the degree through a traditional brick-and-mortar university.

It is the skills that you gain that employers really care about, not how you get them. This makes things easier for you, since you can save time and money through college distance learning programs, and there are plenty of accredited institutions from which to choose.
