Question

Hi there. I am a master's degree-holder in entomology from Nigeria. How do I begin to search for a job that pays very well in Nigeria or elsewhere in the world? I am really desperate.

Answer

You'll want to begin your search at the college from which you graduated. Most colleges have a career services department, and they should have a job listing or a list of possible employers in your field. Contact a career advisor or even one of your professors. They should have information about jobs within and outside of Nigeria. EscapeArtist.com also has job listings in Nigeria and elsewhere in Africa.

Finding work outside your country of residence can be tricky, but it's possible. If you're interested in obtaining your Ph.D., you might be able to find a paid assistantship in an entomology (or biology or zoology) Ph.D. program. Of course, it won't pay a lot, but it could cover classes and give you money to live on. And it could very well open the door to future employment. If this sounds like a possible option for you, go online and check out different degree programs in places you'd like to live.

Here is a listing of jobs within your field in the U.S. You might be able to immigrate with a green card, although it's not a simple process. Resources such as workpermit.com provide invaluable information about finding work in countries worldwide. Good luck!
