What To Do Now? Architect Career Training

If your career skills include a background in design or construction, becoming an architect may be a good fit for you. Architecture is a field that the Bureau of Labor of Statistics expects will continue to grow well into the future, and should provide aspiring applicants a chance at career success.

Career Skills for Architects

Architects are professionals trained in building design. They brainstorm and develop concepts for new structures and create a set of plans and images that detail these concepts. With functionality, safety, use, and cost in mind, architects typically call on a wide range of career skills when designing new buildings.

Architects should have good planning skills, solid communication skills, and visual acuity. As drafting has moved to computers, architects should now also be comfortable working with computers and have a solid understanding of mathematics, physical sciences, and construction methods.

Career Advice: Opening up Doors to Becoming an Architect

Becoming an architect means completing a college education. There are three traditional paths: a 5-year bachelor's degree, a 2-year master's degree for students with a bachelor's degree in a related field, and a 3 to 4-year master's degree for students with a bachelor's degree in a non-related field.

Typical course work includes building design, computer aided design & drafting (CADD), technology, professional practice, math, construction methods, and more. Some programs may even offer online architect training courses in addition to campus-based classes. After completing their education, aspiring architects are required to finish a training period that provides hands-on experience prior to taking the required licensing exam.

As you look to retrain and improve your career skills, consider the exciting field of architecture. With online architect training courses and a wide range of accredited degree programs, you should be able to build your career skills to join this growing field.
