Diploma Program: Forensic Science Degree and Programs

All forensic science technicians have two important jobs: analyzing evidence and testifying at legal proceedings. Beyond that, you can choose to specialize in one area of forensic science, such as firearms, tool marks, documents, toxicology, DNA analysis, or latent fingerprints.

You can start on this career path with a forensic science diploma, and this basic degree typically qualifies you to become an assistant or trainee working under an experienced technician. Nonetheless, once you start working, you can further your education online or at a traditional campus and earn the requisite bachelor's degree to become a full-fledged forensic science technician yourself. While some people have learned all the required skills solely on the job, this has become more difficult as the technology and science these technicians use has grown increasingly complex.

The good news is that once you've completed your education, you should have excellent job opportunities. Employment is expected to grow by 31% from 2006-2016.
