Civil Engineering Degree and Programs

Wherever structures are being designed or built, civil engineers are actively involved. These trained engineers work on roads, buildings, dams, tunnels, bridges, sewage and water supply systems, and more, making them stronger, safer, and more efficient. Civil engineering is the most popular engineering branch, with 256,000 engineers employed nationwide in 2006. Civil engineers are found across the country, and expect to see the largest job growth through 2016.

Civil Engineering Career Training

About 80 percent of all engineers hold a bachelor's degree or higher. Typical civil engineering training programs will cover environmental fluid mechanics, flow in porous media and groundwater, and transport in the environment. General math and science courses are also required. Graduates may combine their experience and skills to work in construction management.
