Question:
What is the admissions process for online degree programs? Is the application process as extensive as campus-based universities?
Answer:
The online application process involves a number of pieces, just like campus-based universities- usually some combination of entrance test, recommendations, application and essay. However, just as campus-based programs vary in their requirements (for instance, the SAT which used to be mandatory for all campus schools, is now optional at some colleges), online schools also range in what is needed. Your best bet is to narrow down the online schools you are interested in, go to their websites, and click the button for more information.
One difference about online schools is that (in some) courses can start at any point during the year so applications are on more of a rolling basis. Traditional campus-based universities tend to have fixed semester schedules with applications due on one date.
Cancer survivor keeps working, walking for cure
The Gazette (Colorado Springs, CO) July 30, 2002 | Dave Philipps; The Gazette Breast cancer is a major part of Carol French’s life. Not just because she beat it twice but because she spends so much time raising money and awareness to fight it. web site boulder running company
French first noticed a lump in her breast in 1990, when she was 46 years old.
“I knew it wasn’t normal,” she said, so she went to the doctor immediately. It was cancer.
She decided to have a mastectomy as soon as possible. French’s mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer years before. She had undergone treatment and went on to live another healthy 20 years.
“I thought to myself, mom did wonderful, I’ll be OK. There is life after cancer,” French said.
Soon French was out of the hospital and volunteering her time answering the questions of women who had recently been diagnosed with cancer. She also started raising money for the Race for the Cure.
In 1997 she started Pueblo Survivors and Friends with her friend, Judy Musso.
The group of more than 100 breast cancer survivors has raised more than $40,000 dollars by selling baked goods and crafts. The money provides grants for breast cancer research and education.
“That money comes right back to our community,” said French. “I see women who have had mammograms because of our bake sales.” Last year, French was diagnosed again with cancer. This time, doctors removed a thumb-sized tumor from the pectoral muscle beneath the scar of her first surgery 11 years before.
“I never thought in a million years that I would get cancer again,” said French. Most recurrences happen within five years of surgery.
But French did not let the cancer slow her down. Even with a schedule of radiation treatments, she missed only one bake sale this year.
She plans to walk in her seventh Race for the Cure at the Air Force Academy on Aug. 11 and hold one more big bake sale before the race. Her team is trying to raise more money than ever.
The research money they raise is important to her. She has three daughters and three granddaughters and wants to make sure they have the best research and treatment on their side.
“As long as the Lord gives me health, I’ll keep going,” French said. “Now I’m back to being healthy again, and I’m back to helping other women.” IF YOU RACE WHAT: 5 km run/walk, 1 mile family walk WHEN: 8 a.m. Aug. 11 WHERE: The Air Force Academy’s Falcon Stadium TO REGISTER: Go to www.csraceforthecure.com or pick up a registration form at the following locations on these dates: see here boulder running company
