Question:
I love teaching and have been doing it for about 6 years.  However, I am in need of a better paying job.  Are there sites that I can browse to see how much some jobs will pay?  I am also 1/2 way to a master’s degree in reading instruction and curriculum.

Answer:
My first suggestion is to decide what is most important to you in a career. You are a self-proclaimed lover of teaching.  In my experience, this is what most people seek–a job that they can love.

It is also a common complaint among teachers that the pay is just not enough.   I recommend taking the necessary steps to finish your master’s degree in education.  This will most likely help you to earn a more lucrative salary and  increase your income.  With a  master’s degree in education , most schools will automatically bump you up to the next level of the pay scale.

If school is not an option right now, and you enjoy teaching too much to change careers, perhaps you can look into supplementing your income.  Most teachers are relieved of their duties by 3:30 and have the luxury of summers off.  Perhaps you could earn extra money as a tutor or coach after school, or with part-time summer work.

If you decide you are interested in doing a salary comparison for various jobs, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will provide you with accurate and objective statistics.  The BLS is an agency within the United States Federal Government that provides various information regarding labor market activity, including wages based on area and occupation.

Finding a career with a perfect balance of of all factors is a difficult task.  I wish you much luck as you continue to explore your needs and what is most important to you as a professional .
