Should I Go Online to Get my College Degree?

Question:
I work for a company and have been promoted to manager. My boss wants me to go back to school to get my college degree. (I only have a high school diploma). Would an online school be a good idea for me?

Answer:It sounds like you are a good and hard worker who has impressed your boss with your talents. Now you are considering whether furthering your education could help you in your career development.

It is probably true that it would be an asset to you to get your bachelor’s degree, whether in business or in some other related field. Even though you got your promotion without that degree, your ability to move forward or even to find comparable work in another company, should circumstances lead to that, could be more limited with a high school diploma.

As you suggest, an online school might indeed be a wise choice. Since you are working full time, you might benefit by having the flexibility and autonomy that an online program can offer. Look through options on the internet, and then request information from the ones that seem like a good match.

Alternatively there are also campus schools that have special programs for adult students.

Either way, through a brick and mortar school or an online program, your ability to organize your time and to focus on your studies in the midst of other responsibilities, will be key components to your success.
