Question:
What are some entry level positions in health care? What degree do I need?

Answer:
Health care is an industry that is continually growing and there are many entry level positions in all kinds of jobs.

Do you prefer to work with patients or behind the scenes? If you like working with data and numbers, you might enjoy the record keeping part of health care. There is a huge need for people trained to keep and use medical records, as well as different kinds of medical data.  You could also train to do medical billing.

If you enjoy helping people directly there are positions you could explore in almost every medical setting. Technicians, whether working with respiratory issues, blood samples, radiation, ultrasound technology or other areas, are in demand. These technicians are needed in hospitals, clinics, and private practices.

Dental hygienists, nursing assistants, and paramedics are all valued roles that require a specific and focused training.

The education needed for each of these jobs varies, of course, but many entry level positions in the health field can be obtained with a certificate or associate’s degree.

Of course, to advance in the field, become a supervisor, or take on higher responsibilities, you may want to eventually get a bachelor’s or even master’s degree.
