Can Nurses Lead a “Normal” Life?

Question:

Dear Counselor, I want to be a nurse, probably a registered nurse, but I look at the nurses I know and they have no personal life. One is an LPN and is going back to school, but he never sees his family. Another single mom I know is always working shift work. Is it possible to be a nurse and have a normal life? Thanks, Nommi.

Answer:

Dear Nommi,

Part of me wants to ask you to define “normal,” because everyone’s normal is a bit different, but I do know what you [...]

Nursing Schools in New Jersey for Adult Students

Question:

I have a BA in business and am considering a career change. I would like to pursue nursing but am well over 40. Giving today's economic situation, is this a good idea? I'm currently working part-time due to other family obligations and feel this would be a good time to do it, rather than returning to work in my current field on a full time basis. I'm in New Jersey and any schools (LPN) that you can recommend would be helpful. I believe this would be my best option, rather than returning to college at this time. Thanks. A [...]

I would want to finish my career as a registered nurse and a teacher, but I don't know how to go about going back to school. I only have weekends and evenings available and a lot of the programs for nursing and teaching need day-time attention. What should I do?

PS I tried to go to a community college but that didn't work out. I need advice please! From Jayleen
