Court Reporting Degree and Programs

A very small but highly skilled contingent of people work in the judicial system as court reporters. Using a stenotype machine, court reporters must transcribe 200 or more words a minute. The low number of positions open and the potential for high salaries makes this a competitive job market.

Career Training for Court Reporters

Court reporters gain most of their skills and knowledge through career training programs. There are professional institutions, such as the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers (AAERT) that credential and license court reporters. Some career colleges offer certificate programs and court reporting degrees that teach the necessary skills, such as transcription and documentation.
