Law and Criminal Justice Degree and Programs

Within the criminal justice system, there are many different kinds of jobs: police officer, detective, lawyer, judge, court reporter, paralegal and more. Each individual plays an important role in keeping our communities safe and the judicial system in working order. There are thousands of other support positions for clerks, social workers, and administrators. With the right career training and experience, there is plenty of room for career advancement.

Career Training and Criminal Justice

Each career track within the legal system has its own educational path and requirements. Associate degrees in criminal justice can prepare you to work as a paralegal, in corrections, or in other support positions. Higher-level positions in the police force, legal services or forensics often require bachelor's degrees. Master's degrees and PhDs in criminal justice can prepare you to administer criminal justice programs. Lawyers and judges must attend law school and pass the bar exams for their states.
