Career Options with a Master's in Geography

A minimum of a bachelor's degree, and in many cases a master's degree, is required for most positions related to geography. Whether on-campus or online, graduates can pursue a number of job opportunities including geographers, mapmakers, city planners, military consultants, crisis management, and homeland security. Most career opportunities are available in the federal government, although colleges and universities are another large employer of these types of scientists. Those with a master's degree or higher will have the best job opportunities. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported an average annual salary of $66,440 for geographers based on 2007 data.
