Social Sciences Degree and Programs

The social sciences study how humans interact with each other, and respond to or affect their environment. Social scientists conduct research and make observations in order to recommend policies or solve social problems. Social science majors study a variety of subjects, from math and statistics to research methodology, human psychology, media and communications, criminology, or even history.

Careers for Social Science Majors

Social sciences degrees can prepare you to enter many in-demand professions, including substance abuse rehabilitation counseling or human services assisting--two careers that rank among the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Top 30 Fastest-Growing Occupations for 2006-2016. College graduates may also work as probations or corrections officers. With advanced degrees, they may work as sociologists, who study people's behavior in order to develop policies or solutions.
