Security Degree and Programs

Loss prevention is a multi-billion-dollar industry that employs private security guards to prevent harm to people and loss of property as a result of theft, fire, vandalism, and terrorism. If you're a security guard, you may work in a private residence or in almost any type of business, from department stores to casinos, public transportation facilities, museums, restaurants, and bars. With the right training and experience, you could be in charge of planning and implementing all security operations.

Security Training

Most states require guards to be licensed, which means passing a background check and completing basic security classroom training. Security training courses generally cover crime prevention, handling evidence, surveillance, crowd control, emergency response procedures and first aid, and working with law enforcement. Armed security guards receive additional firearms training. If you have advanced career training or a college degree, you'll be in a good position to land better jobs in the field of security and loss prevention.
