Business computer systems need to be reliable and capable of supporting an organization's current and future needs. As a technical manager, you'll research your employers' information technology needs, make budgets and schedules, oversee technical personnel, manage projects from beginning to end, and work with internal and external clients and vendors to ensure that the computer system is stable and secure.

Technical Management Training

For many technical management jobs, you'll need a computer-related bachelor's degree as well as an understanding of business and management. Because you may be required to make business decisions as well as technology decisions, your prospective employer may prefer that you have a graduate degree, such as a master's in technical management or an MBA with an emphasis on technology.
