Real estate licensing requirements vary from state to state. In California, for example, when it's time to get your license, you'll need to complete standardized coursework in a formal real estate training program. Once you've graduated, you'll need to provide proof of legal residency and pass the 150-question California real estate exam. In California, real estate licenses are issued for a four-year period. The state sends out reminders to renew approximately 90 days before your license expires. If you renew in time, you can complete the entire renewal online.
