The most successful Web pages are designed for ease of use and clarity of message. As a Web designer, you'll create and maintain your site's look and feel. You'll need a strong background in graphic design and the latest Web usability practices, and will be expected to consider cultural, social, and psychological factors that determine how people may interact with a Web site. You'll probably work hand-in-hand with a Web developer, who will be responsible for the business and commercial aspects of the Web site.

Web Design Training

A college degree is strongly recommended: you can start with a traditional degree in fine art or graphic design, or take advantage of the many new Web design degrees available online. Your coursework may include studio art, principles of design, computerized design, computer graphics, Web design, and design software. An associate degree and some additional experience may help you get an entry-level position in Web design.
